Cuba score second win over France

Antonin Rouzier scored 26 points for France but it wasn't enough as they went down to Cuba
Montbeliard, France, June 26, 2011 – Cuba scored a seventh win in the 2011 FIVB Volleyball World League on Sunday with a 3-1 (21-25, 25-20, 25-15, 25-23) victory over France to book their place in the Final Round.

France are now in danger of finishing bottom of Pool C and will meet Korea next week in an effort to improve.

Cuba started well, taking a two point lead. Two Antonin Rouzier attacks and one from Gérald Hardy-Dessources helped bring the hosts level at 12-all and they pushed ahead to take a four point advantage and then the set.

Cuba bounced back in the second and a block from Camejo put them five points ahead. A bad serve from Nicolas Maréchal ended the set as Cuba pulled back.

Wilfredo Leon’s side continued to put the pressure on France’s defensive block. The Cubans quickly moved six points and despite a poor reception on set point they moved ahead at 2-1.

Antonin Rouzier tried to rally his side ahead of the fourth set and it seemed to work as they led at 16-13. But it wasn’t enough as the visitors fought back at 21-all. A spike from Vadeleux kept France in the hunt but Camejo sealed the win for his side with a spike.

France take on Korea next week as Cuba face Italy in a top-of-the-table battle.
