Russia outclass Japan to increase winning streak

Russia revel in their eighth win of the 2011 FIVB Volleyball World League on Sunday
Surgut, Russia, June 19, 2011 – Russia sealed another clear victory over Japan with a solid performance at home as they clinched a straight sets win (25-15, 25-18, 25-21) in their 2011 FIVB Volleyball World League Pool B match on Sunday and almost guaranteed themselves a place in the Final Round.

The hosts remain unbeaten after eight matches while Japan were dealt their seventh defeat in this year’s tournament.

Russia started with more confidence than Japan, going ahead at the first technical timeout 8-4, before Japan succumbed to a huge gap in the score and let Russia close the first set 25-15.

The second set saw Russia continue to dominate while Japan suffered from the effective spikes of their rivals and failed to hold back Denis Biriukov’s serves as they dropped further behind.

With Russia leading 2-0, the third set started with the Russians taking the lead after a number of fights for the early points. Russia went ahead at the first TTO to build a solid advantage and held on for the win.

Japan will now travel to Bulgaria while Germany will host the unbeaten Russia next weekend.
