Serbia gain revenge over Finland with win in Belgrade

Serbia overpowered Finland in the second match in Belgrade
Belgrade, Serbia, June 4, 2011 – After defeat in their first match Serbia bounced back to clinch a 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-21) win over Finland in Pool C of the 2011 FIVB Volleyball World League on Saturday night in Belgrade.

Serbia finish their weekend second in the group behind Argentina while Finland languish in fourth with just this weekend’s win.

Fast serves and excellent spikes from both sides marked the beginning of the first set as the hosts took control to storm into a quick lead. They maintained pressure and, even though the Finns tried to keep the pace and tie the score, the Serbs left no room for mistakes to take the lead.

After a rapid point-by-point game at the start of the second Serbia raised the pressure once again and easily took the lead. Helped along by Sasa Starovic’s spikes and Marko Podrascanin’s blocks the home side indicated their intent as they went two sets ahead with a win in sight.

Serbia continued with the same fast tempo in the third set before the Finns came within two points. However Serbia dug deep and came up trumps as they sealed the set to recover their weekend.

Next weekend Finland host Argentina as Serbia host Portugal.
