Portugal on prowl for points to avoid playoffs

Finnish center Konstantin Shumov tries to block the spike of Portugal's Manuel Silva in their first match on Thursday
Tampere, Finland, July 1, 2011 – Portugal will be searching for victory over Finland in their final match of the 2011 FIVB Volleyball World League on Friday in Tampere as the visitors look to avoid a qualification playoff spot in Pool C.

The side, who returned to the World League for the first time since 2006 this year, will need to win 3-0 or 3-1 to be sure of a place in next year’s tournament however if France lose in their match to Korea the result in Tampere will not matter.

Finland however can be a little more relaxed on Friday as they will remain third in the group.

"We need to check tonight which players are in best condition and best health to play tomorrow,” Finland coach Daniel Castellani said after the first match. “It is certain that Olli Kunnari will not play. He has a small muscle injury in the stomach and he had to come to the bench in the fifth set today, because it started to hurt",

"Those who are ready to play will play tomorrow."

Finland v Portugal will take place at 15:30 GMT.
