Another fantastic volleyball performance to be expected in Poland

Poland were made to suffer under the powerful Brazilian spike so will hope to recover on Thursday
Katowice, Poland, June 30, 2011 – Poland will be hoping to bounce back after going down 3-1 to Brazil in their first match of the week on Wednesday as they look to enter the Final Round of the 2011 FIVB Volleyball World League on the back of a win over the defending champions.

Fans of both sides were on hand in the opening match between the two on this final weekend of Intercontinental Round action and much of the same is expected on Thursday when they meet again.

“I think that there is no person in the world who wouldn't get extremely emotional sitting in this hall tonight,” Brazil coach Bernardo “Bernardinho” Rezende said. “In my opinion Spodek is one of the best, if not the best, hall in the world to play in.”

Winning in four sets the visitors secured top spot in Pool A. Both teams played on the highest level, fighting for every point. Poland's captain Michal Bakiewicz and coach Andrea Anastasi agreed on one thing: the difference in levels of experience between the teams was essential.

“Brazil is more experienced than our team and it was this experience was a key point today”, Bakiewicz said. “I hope we will be as well prepared for tomorrow’s game as we were tonight.”

Some key players returned for Brazil on Wednesday, making them an ominous opponent as they march towards the Final Round. Receiver Dante played an entire game for the first time in this year's World League, coming back after an injury.

An Bernardinho hinted at perhaps another return on Thursday.

“Maybe tomorrow we will see Giba on the court,” he said.

It looks like on Thursday the fans in Katowice will see volleyball's brightest stars playing, fighting hard for every ball. The referee will blow the first whistle at 20:30 GMT.
