Berruto urges Italy to push for more

Italy coach Mauro Berruto is not satisfied with mere qualification

Parma, Italy, June 28, 2011 – After booking their place in the Final Round with a pair of convincing straight-set victories over Korea, Italy will wrap up their FIVB World League Pool D programme with two home assignments against Cuba this week.

Mauro Berruto's men arrived in Parma on Monday knowing a visit to Gdansk now awaits them but the coach is keen that they finish their pool programme top of the section. Italy presently have 25 points to Cuba's 20.

"Securing our qualification with two games in advance was an excellent result," said Berruto. "Now we have to finish first in our pool. We must continue on this [winning] path."

The Italy squad arrived in Parma on Monday and will face Cuba at 20.30 local time on Wednesday before the teams meet again in Modena 48 hours later. Wednesday's game is expected to be sold out and Italy will face a Cuba team buoyed by two victories over France as they seek the points needed to secure their own passage to the last eight.
