Three big points at stake in second Argentina-Portugal clash

The Catamarca stadium will welcome Argentina and Portugal.

Catamarca, Argentina, June 18, 2011 – The Capital Stadium will once more be crowded with volleyball fans to welcome Argentine and Portugal for the second match of the fourth weekend of the Intercontinental Round of the 2011 FIVB World League after Javier Weber’s light and blue team won its sixth consecutive match.

The match will be played at 6:00 pm local time will also be broadcast live to the whole country by ESPN+, the channel that supports and broadcasts all the matches of the Argentina men’s team.

Weber’s team had two first great sets in Saturday’s match and will try to repeat the performance and another three points that would leave the team on the edge of qualification for the Final Round – in Gdansk, Poland – for the third consecutive year.

Argentina leads pool C with 17 points and a 6-1 record, just one victory away from equaling their best performance in the FIVB World League. Argentina obtained seven victories in the years 2006 and 2009.

For Portugal, meanwhile, the challenge will be exactly the opposite. Finland’s victory over Serbia left Juan Diaz’s team last in the pool with only seven points, so they must add to improve their ranking.
