São Paulo, Brazil, June 18, 2011 – Puerto Rico’s game against Brazil on Saturday began as a point-by-point affair. But in the end, the nine-time champions of the FIVB Volleyball World League used their experience to take the match. Puerto Rican captain Hector Soto believes the key word for Sunday’s game is effectiveness.
“We played a good match,” Soto said. “However, we need to be more effective at the end of matches. We had good moments against the best team in the world and that’s a good sign.”
On the other side, Brazilian head coach Bernardo Rezende does not want his team to ease up in any way during matches.
“We showed some signs of relaxing at the end of the third set,” Bernardo stated. “This kind of thing cannot happen. We cannot have this attitude.”
The legendary Brazilian coach is also asking for more from his team.
“We have a lot of work to do,” Bernardo explained. “Our team needs to improve. We cannot lose any points at home because we will play tough games abroad and we need to guarantee our place in the Final Round.”
The two teams will meet again on Sunday at 15:00 GMT in São Paulo.
