  Marcel Gil was born in 1990, in Lisbon and began his career with SL Benfica at 14. In 2006 he transferred to SC Espinho and in 2008 he played for AA S Mamede where he won a Junior National championship. After playing for one season for SC Caldas he moved to Spanish club Clube Voleibol Portol where he currently plies his trade.

He was also one of the initial players that was integrated into the project of the Portuguese NF, the Resende Permanent Training Centre.

The 203-cm middle-blocker is still in a phase of evolution and improvement. His participation in the Spanish Championships is a factor of experience that will contribute to his maturity.
