Profile
Manuel Silva was born in Massarelos, in 1973 and started to play volleyball when he was 14 years old in Ala Nun’Alvares Gondomar where he played for six years.
In 1994 he began to play for SC Espinho and transferred to Castelo da Maia GC in 1997. The following year Manel joined Spanish club CD Numancia. Afterwards and over the next nine years he rotated between SC Espinho, CD Numancia (one Spanish national championship and one Cup), Castelo da Maia GC (two national championships and two Cups) and SL Benfica (two national cups).
In 2008 he moved to Terceira Island to play for AJF Bastardo where he currently plays.
Manel’s first call up to the senior national team was back in 1994, which makes the 192-cm universal a veteran in the team with long experience and always committed. A powerful spiker and with a good serve, has a very competitive and challenging character.
He always knew how to overcome the difficult moments in a long career in high-level competition. Amongst his best results are eighth place in the World Championship in 2002 and the European League Championship title conquered last year.
