Russia played better at the crucial moments

Cuba captain Simon Aties Robertlandy: I congratulate the Russian team.  I know that tomorrow it will be another match and the chance to qualify for semifinals.

Russia’s top scorer Mikhaylov Maxin (21 points): “After yesterday’s match we had not assured our participation in the semifinals.  We improved our performance from that first match and the victory left us ranked first in the pool and therefore we are sure and happy.

Cuba coach Orlando Samuels:  Russia finally won the match.  We played a very good first set and then, at sometimes we were with our minds out of the match.  The change of players putting in Fernando Hernandez helped us and returned our concentration but the mistakes in the fifth set between the points 12 and 14 made us lose the match.

Russia coach Daniele Bagnoli:  In the first set we were very nervous and then we started playing better but Cuba changed and put Hernandez on the field and never gave up fighting.  Obviously we are very happy and we know that to start good from the beginning will give us the chance of playing the Final.  We wait with calm to see who the semifinal rival will be.
