Brazil obtained its second victory over Venezuela in the Volleyball World League.
Brazil's National Volleyball team obtained the victory in the first match of the Intercontinental Round of the Volleyball World League, defeating Venezuela 3 sets to 1, in a breath taking match that took place at Poliedro de Caracas Gymnasium.

Portugal undefeated in the first 2005 WL weekend
Portugal won his second match against Japan in the World League by: 3/1. The Portuguese team entered in this match too nervous and lost the first set. Nevertheless, with good serves and receptions they gave few changes to the Japanese team, in the following sets.

Bulgaria made mistake at the start
Last years fourth place winner in the World League Bulgaria started with a false step in this year's edition of the competition. In their first match, and first in the League also, Bulgaria lost 1:3 (24:26, 25:16, 20:25, 19:25) to Cuba. Latin American team made it with more desire and less errors. Cuba was digging and serving better and had one brilliant Poey who scored over 20 points for the victory.

Confortable and well deserve french victory
France beat Italy 3-0 in the opening game for both teams in week 1 of Pool B. Locals showed some tracks oh high quality volleyball only in the first period. Then France took the control of the game showing more consistency in attacking and defence. Good mental attitude from the French that were able to produce a surprising comeback in the first period before took the total control of the match.

Italian revenge. Azzurri hammered a poor France
Italy beat France 3-0 in the second game for both teams in week 1 of Pool B. A real one way match the Italians lead from the very beginning. Solid in the attacking patterns, very efficient in defence. The control of the game was totally in the hands of the team coached by Gian Paolo Montali. France never came back on the score. They cancelled the good things showed in Ragusa. For the Italians it is time for another winning dream.

Cuba strikes twice
Cuba taught Bulgaria second perfect lesson of class volleyball achieving second victory in a row against then in Varna. In front of 5500 not believing pair of Bulgarian eyes, Roberto Garcia's men brought down any hopes for hosts to go to the next round. They won it slight and easy with style - 3:0 (25:20, 26:24, 25:23).

Nervous victory by Poland over rejuvenated Argentina
Almost 7000 spectators gathered in Bydgoszcz enjoyed nervous start for Poland in the first match against the team of Argentina. Surprised by the astonishing play of making their debut in the World League Mariusz Wlazly and Michal Winiarski, the guests were unable to stop Polish points making machines.

Greece shuts Serbia & Montenegro on opening day
Injury-plagued Greece overcame its own problems to sail to a straight-set victory 3-0 (26-24, 25-18, 25-21) over a new and young Serbia and Montenegro, on the opening day of the Intercontinental Round of the 2005 World League. Greece outperformed the visiting team in blocking, to counter Serbia and Montenegro attacking and the many unforced errors it conceded.

Poland completes double victory against the team of Argentina
After nervous and balanced struggle Polish National Team defeated Argentina by second time in a row, 3-1 (19-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-22). Once again Polish aces - Mariusz Wlazly and Piotr Gruszka proved their values by leading in Polish best scorers statistics.

Greece stages comeback, to score second victory
Greece came back from 0-1 to score its second victory in as many matches, 3-1 (23-25, 25-22, 25-16, 25-19) over Serbia & Montenegro in Pool C of the Intercontinental Round of the 2005 World League. Greece dropped the opening set, Saturday evening, but rallied to comfortably clinch the next three sets and retain a perfect record at the conclusion of their opening weekend obligations.
