Roberto Garcia began his Volleyball coaching career in 1971 when he looked after local school and junior teams. From there, he successfully rose through the ranks managing squads in Cuban first division tournaments.
In season 1979-80, Garcia gained some invaluable experience on the international coaching scene when he took the reigns of the Iraqi menís national Volleyball team.

He was offered the responsibility to be head coach of the Junior National Cuban Team in 1999, a responsibility he duly accepted. Garcia didnít disappoint as he went on to lead the junior side to victory at the 2000 NORCECA Junior Championships. A fifth place finish at the World Junior Championships in Poland followed in 2001.
Roberto Garcia has obtained a degree in Physical Education form the Manuel Fajardo Superior Institute of Havana.

He took charge of the Cuban Menís National Team in the latter stages of 2003.
