We didn't play so well but I'm happy: Serbia coach

Serbia earned their second World Grand Prix bronze medal

Sapporo, Japan, September 1, 2013 – Serbia clinched the bronze medal in the FIVB World Grand Prix Finals on Sunday after a tough 3-2 (22-25, 25-23, 20-25, 25-16, 15-11) win over Italy at Hokkaido Prefectural Sports Center. Serbia coach Zoran Terzic said it wasn’t all plain sailing.

Serbia coach Zoran Terzic: First, I would like to say I’m very proud about my team today. We took our second World Grand Prix medal and I’m really happy and satisfied about this. In the game, we didn’t play so well, especially in the first three sets. I don’t know the reason, but maybe the girls were thinking they only needed two sets. When you’re not focused on the game, you can’t do well. After that, we played much better and the job was easier. I’m really very happy.

Serbia captain Maja Ognjenovic: I think we should be happy but I’m not so satisfied with the game today. It was a close game and we made a lot of mistakes. It was difficult today but we are happy to finish in third place. We were strong in some moments but also weak in some moments. We have to practice for the European Championship.

Italy coach Marco Mencarelli: We made another step forward. The second set was not good but we played well apart from that.

Italy captain Martina Guiggi: I was satisfied with the game. We did our best. It was difficult in the second set but we showed that we can be strong sometimes. I hope we can be better in the European Championship. It was tough because there were five matches in five days.
