Germany's coach: 'It’s a great honor for us to play in this incredible atmosphere'

Germany's head coach Italian Giovanni Guidetti and team captain Margareta Kozuch in an interview with journalists

Bangkok, Thailand, August 17, 2013 - Germany's head coach Giovanni Guidetti expressed his satisfaction over his team's win over hosts Thailand. Following are quotes of head coaches and team captains of Germany and Thailand.

Giovanni Guidetti, head coach of Germany: “It’s a great honor for us to play in this incredible atmosphere. It was the second time we played in Thailand after we were here in 2008. Also, it was so amazing to see volleyball become very popular in this country. So it was our pleasure to play in front of the amazing crowd. Thai fans are fantastic. It’s always difficult to play against the team like Thailand. They have great players, great coaches. My team did a very good job. But it has never been easy for us to win here , especially when we played in front of Thai fans. Tomorrow we are going to face Puerto Rico. We’ll train hard like we always did in other matches. Puerto Rico are a good team with good attackers. We aim to win every match we play.”

Margareta Kozuch, team captain of Germany: “I’m happy that we won today. I think Thailand played very well with good defense. They did their best until the end of the game. We are glad that we eventually claimed the third set win which made us win the match. Also, Thai supporters are so incredible as they encouraged their team to keep on fighting. They created the wonderful atmosphere, and we were delighted showing our performance to those spectators . Finally, we are so happy being and playing here. “

Kiattipong Radchatagriengkai, head coach of Thailand: “Germany are very strong with aggressive attacks. We tried our best to attack and block , but it didn’t work effectively. Moreover, we tried to dig the ball by Germany, But their attacking were too hard. Also their serves are very difficult for us to return. In the first and second set, we couldn’t play according to the plan, but in the third set, we played better. However, it was not good enough to beat Germany. We’ll play hard in order to make a good result tomorrow. We’ll improve our fast spike which is the important factor that helps us gain many points in each competition. Also we’ll enhance our defense to make our team stronger.”

Wilavan Apinyapong, team captain of Thailand: “We performed our best, but Germany were too strong. They provided terrific strategies and very aggressive serves which were very difficult to receive. Although we tried to follow the tip that our coach told us, our unforced mistakes made us out of the plan. We next take on Russia . We’ll do our best. We’ll play according to the strategy the coach has taught us. We hope we’ll make our fans impressed.”
