Argentina come from behind again to claim second win in Italy

Argentina celebrate a second 3-2 win in Italy

Montichiari, Italy, August 4, 2013 - Argentina twice recovered a match deficit to beat Kazakhstan 3-2 (15-25, 25-15, 23-25, 25-20, 15-9) on a tie-break in pool E on the first weekend of the 2013 World Grand Prix.

Lucia Fresco led the scoring with 24 points and victory meant Argentina left Italy with two wins after also recording a 3-2 win against Germany.

Argentina looked more relaxed than their match against Germany and started the match slowly, with difficulties in blocking defence.

Kazakhstan's setter, captain Korinna Ishimtseva, led her team through the first set and they took control of the match thanks to the attack of Tatyana Mudritskaya, who scored at 78%. Lack of concentration and mistakes from Argentina gave Kazakhstan the set 25-15.

Kazakhstan relaxed too much at the net in the second set and allowed Argentina to take a 16-9 lead. Kazakhstan’s attack suffered with too many errors as a result of difficulty in receiving and lost the set 25-15 to level the match at 1-1.

Argentina started the third set in the ascendency took an early lead, but Kazakhstan improved their service and, thanks to three aces, made a comeback to win the set 25-23.

Following their reaction against Germany, where they also trailed 2-1, Argentina took control of the fourth set to win 25-20 and pushing the match into a tie break.

Argentina held their momentum into the tie-break fifth set, held a valuable 10-6 lead at the second technical timeout, and won the set 15-9 to complete a 3-2 win.

Despite being on the losing side, Kazakhstan's Tatyana Mudritskaya was the match's top scorer with 31 points.
