China coach Lang Ping says she is planning to bring back familiar faces

Macau, August 4, 2013 – China emerged victorious in Group D of the FIVB World Grand Prix after defeating the Netherlands 3-1 (26-24, 19-25, 25-17, 25-17) on Sunday, but coach Lang Ping says there are areas where her team still needs to improve.

China coach Lang Ping: “This match was the toughest match for us in the Macau leg of the tournament as both teams played a very high level of volleyball. There were ups and downs in our performance today; we were not quick enough in recomposing our defence against our opponent’s counterattacks. In the upcoming stages of the tournament, against even stronger teams, we have to improve in many areas, especially in the coordination of players. Nevertheless, I want to congratulate the players, for the perseverance they showed and for winning the game. In the next round, we plan to examine a different team formation and to bring back some of the more familiar players such as Hui Ruoqi, Yin Na, Zeng Chunlei, Shan Danna to the line-up so all the players can have an opportunity to train and compete in the tournament.”

Netherlands captain Maret Grothues: “First of all, congratulations to the China team. In the first two sets, we played very high-level volleyball. However, after the second set our condition went down a little and in the third and fourth sets, we made too many mistakes and China continued to play good, so they won.”
Netherlands coach Gido Vermeulen: “I also want to congratulate the China team; they played a great game today. In the first two sets, we played the game very well and reacted well to the Asian style, which is very different to ours, and posed difficulties for us to set up our blocks and defence. In the first two sets, we played good defence but after that, we did not have the concentration to maintain the level of play, whereas China kept their form. So I am happy and commended my players for the first two sets. We will now go back to training and to improve.”
