Russia's coach: 'It was a great test for both teams'

The coaches and captians gather for a press conference after Brazil's victory over Russia

Campinas, Brazil, August 3, 2013 – Russia’s head coach Iuriy Marichev highlighted the high level of play in Saturday’s match against Brazil, at Arena Amil Gymnasium, in Campinas, Brazil for the 2013 FIVB World Grand Prix. After a tiebreak set, Brazil won 3-2.

“Today’s match was really important and emotional,” Marichev said. “It was a great test both teams, especially while we build our team. Kosheleva, for example, came back today after an eight-month break due to an injury.”

Brazilian head coach Zé Roberto Guimarães had the same opinion on the emotional side of the match.

“A match like today’s one is really important to help the team to get used to this pressure, and to tough games,”  Guimarães said..“Our team shows its strength when all the girls make an important role. If you look our scoreboard, it is really well distributed. That’s how we reached our victories this year.”

In Brazilian captain Fabiana Claudino’s opinion, the serve was essential for their victory.

“We’ve been starting our matches with a less-aggressive serve,” Claudino said. “When it starts to work, the other skills get improved. We were not aggressive as we should on the first set. But the opposite happened on the tie-break, when our aggressiveness was essential for the victory.”
