We were surprised the way the match went: Serbia coach

Serbia's Brankica Mihajlovic led Serbia to the victory over Dominican Republic with a match-high 22 points

Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, August 2, 2013 – Serbia beat the Dominican Republic 3-0 on Friday with a strong exhibition of serves, attacks and blocks.

Zoran Terzic, coach of Serbia: “We played against a very strong team and in some way we are surprised about the way the match concluded. Both teams played well but we took the best part. It was our first official game of the season and I was a little bit concerned, but we came out well. Even though we won, I am not totally happy with our overall performance.”

Marcos Kwiek, coach of Dominican Republic: “Tomorrow’s match against Puerto Rico is what really counts at this moment because if I try to analyze this loss it could take at least a week to understand it. We played well below our usual level. We have more capacity and are better than we showed today.”

Maja Ognjenovic, captain of Serbia: “Our service was and will be our best tool, so we concentrated on keeping it and we will use it as our main weapon in the next two matches. In the first set, the Dominican team had to improve their defense and even though they made some adjustments, they couldn’t recover. Our serves for moments were not that good, but they made many mistakes and we took advantage of it.”

Bethania De la Cruz, captain of Dominican Republic: “Congratulations to the winners; the team of Serbia was superior and deserved to win. We were prepared for this match knowing that it was the toughest of them all. The people expected us to put on a better showing, but we were out of focus, somehow pressured or too emotional playing at home. We didn’t execute well, but expect to do better tomorrow.”
