Experience and youth in service for Brazil

Fabi and Gabi are two figures in the young Brazilian team

Campinas, Brazil, August 1, 2013 – Libero Fabi, 33 years old, has one of the more victorious careers in volleyball. Two Olympic gold medals, four FIVB World Grand Prix titles, one Pan American Games crown and six Superliga titles, just to give some examples of her achievements.

On the eve of the 21st edition of the premier annual women’s volleyball event, Fabi is the most experienced player in the Brazilian national team and has the responsibility of being one of the leaders in a young team that will play its first game of the 2013 FIVB World Grand Prix on Friday at 19:00 (local time) against Poland in the Arena Amil Gymnasium in Campinas.

At her side in the Brazilian group, one of the new talents of Brazilian volleyball, the wing spiker Gabi, who, at 19 years old, will play in an international competition for the first time at home. In June, Gabi was part of the bronze medal winning Brazilian team at the FIVB Women´s Under 20 Championship in the Czech Republic but Friday will be the first time she will pull on the canary yellow on home soil.

She has Fabi as an idol. Together, Gabi and Fabi shined in the conquest by Unilever of the Brazilian Superliga.

“Since I started to play with Fabi I became her fan,” Gabi said. “She is a player with a lot of will, spirit of victory and talks a lot with me. It has being really important to play with her in the national team. I am improving a lot”.

Meanwhile, Fabi is equally complementary, praising Gabi’s youth and dedication during practice sessions.

“That is a characteristic of Gabi that I admire a lot,” Fabi affirmed. “She is a girl that is always smiling and happy. Her tranquility for her age is outstanding. This is difficult to find in a young player. She has a great future ahead of her”.
