Team profile

The Dominican Republic have qualified for the FIVB World Grand Prix every year, since 2003. Their bronze medal at the FIVB World Grand Champions Cup in 2009 was their first FIVB medal.

The Dominicans have claimed gold in the last three editions of the Central American and Caribbean Games in El Salvador (2002), Colombia (2006) and Puerto Rico (2010).

They have won two gold medals (2008 and 2010), six silver (2002, 2003, 2005, 2009, 2011, 2013) and three bronze (2004, 2006, 2007) at the Pan American Cup. And at the NORCECA Continental Championships the team have taken one gold medal (2009), one silver (2011) and five bronze (1997, 2001, 2003, 2005,  2007).

Other important achievements include a gold medal at the 2003 Pan American Games in Santo Domingo, and qualification to the Olympic Games in Athens 2004 and London 2012, where they finished 11th and fifth respectively.

Impressively, only former captain Milagros Cabral de la Cruz has retired since the Olympics meaning star attacker Bethania de la Cruz, who once held the record for most points in a match when scoring 54 for her Japanese club in 2012 and holds the record for the World Cup after scoring 42 against Germany in 2011, is still on the books.

The Dominican Republic, ranked 10th in the world, will be looking to continue their excellent start to 2013 having finished third at the Montreux VolleyMasters in June.
