Brazil completed their second five-set win of the weekend (after beating Italy a day earlier) by edging Serbia 3-2 (21-25, 25-18, 25-23, 23-25, 15-5) while Turkey beat Korea 3-1 (25-18, 22-25, 25-21, 25-14), Thailand saw off Puerto Rico in straight-sets (25-21, 25-20, 25-22), Cuba triumphed over Japan 3-1 (25-20, 20-25, 25-18, 25-20), China defeated Argentina in four sets (23-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-18) and Serbia were victorious over Poland 3-1 (25-22, 23-25, 25-20, 31-29).
In Santo Domingo, two-time defending champions USA scored their second victory in as many outings by trouncing Chinese Taipei in straight-sets (25-10, 25-22, 25-12) while Germany outplayed hosts Dominican Republic in consecutive frames (25-16, 25-18, 25-19).
Turkey coach Marco Aurelio Motta was happy with his team’s win, and says the team are already eyeing up a place in the Finals.
“I think we could get to the higher level at this 2012
