USA, ranked No.1 in the world, qualified for the London 2012 Olympic Games at the FIVB World Cup last year and will use the World Grand Prix as preparation for the tournament later this year.
The country has medalled at the Olympic Games three times, including silver at the most recent edition in 2008. The US Women also earned the silver medal at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, as well as the bronze medal at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. During its Olympic Games qualification tournament, the US finished 9-2 at the 2011 FIVB World Cup in Japan to secure the silver medal in November.
