Brazil beat Kazakhstan in straight sets

Brazil's block helped the side pick up the win
Almaty, Kazakhstan, August 13, 2011 – Brazil once again showed their superiority on the court in the 2011 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix on Saturday as they beat hosts Kazakhstan 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-20) in Almaty.

As expected the Brazilians convincingly cruised past the Kazakh girls and recorded their second win on the second weekend of the tournament.

Brazil’s Menezes Thaisa scored 15 points while Castro Sheilla added 11 points. On the other side of the net Beresneva scored 12 points for Kazakhstan.  

In the first set both teams showed their ambition but Brazil didn’t allow Kazakhstan to take any advantages. The score moved to 7-4 thanks to the powerful block and attack. Ishimtseva was good in attack and scored two points for Kazakhstan but Brazil remained ahead. Despite numerous fight backs from Kazakhstan Brazil kept their lead to seal the set.

The second set started better for Kazakhstan as the team took a three point advantage before Brazil reigned them back in. Brazil played confidently and took the lead at 8-5 and continued to move on to 11-9. Menezes and Castro were perfect in attack and increased the margin before Kazakhstan made changes. In spite of good play in attacks and rallies from Kazakhstan Brazil did excellent with their high blocks to take the set.

The third set was very competitive and with neither side eager to relinquish the lead. After good play from Kazakhstan they took a four point lead. Thanks to Castro and Claudino Brazil cut the margin but the score was 8-5. After excellent play from Menezes Brazil tied the score 12-12. Brazil took the lead on the 2nd TTO 16-14 but Kazakhstan could level the score 16-16. Kazakhstan made mistakes in service and the game became more competitive 18-20. The 3rd set ended 20-25 for Kazakhstan.

Tomorrow-in the last day of competition Kazakh and Brazil girls will again play at B.Sholak Sport and Culture Palace. Kazakhstan will face Thailand while Brazil will fight against Italy.
