Team profile

After taking part in the first 15 editions of the World Grand Prix, Cuba was absent for the last two years but are back for the 2011 edition with a renewed team of outstanding players.

The squad includes Kenia Carcaces, Yanelis Santos and Yusidey Silie – the only remaining players who participated at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games – in addition to Rosanna Giel, Yoana Palacios, Wilma Salas, Emily Borrell, Ana Yillian Cleger and Lianes Castañeda.

These players will have the job of rediscovering success for the Cuban women's team in this prestigious competition, which they won in 1993 and 2000.

The technical staff have over two years of experience with this team and will help guide these girls to victory.

Coach profile

Juan Carlos Gala is in his second year as coach of the Cuban national team and now has the experience of several international competitions under his belt, including the World Championship and the recently completed Pan American Cup, where the team finished fourth. He has made it his personal commitment to take the team back to the top of world volleyball. To this end, he is looking to raise Cuba’s world ranking and guide the team to a spot in the 2012 World Grand Prix, as well as to perform well in all international competitions.
