Hong Kong, China, August 21 2010 – The USA scored a convincing 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-16) win over Thailand on Saturday as their 2010 FIVB World Grand Prix campaign continued in Hong Kong on Saturday.
The Thailand team tried to bounce back from yesterday’s defeat to China, but the USA's height was apparent in their blocks which gave them an immediate advantage at the start. Even with a few points lost just before the first technical timeout, the USA was still leading. Despite Thailand’s effort to fight back, USA was able to sustain a 4-point lead at the second technical timeout before clinching the set.
The second set saw the USA move ahead 4-0. Thailand managed to catch up at 7-8 . Taking advantage of the rival’s repeated errors under pressure, the USA went further ahead on the score at the second technical timeout (16-10) and took the set with ease.
The Thailand team did not lose their spirit after two disappointing sets. With their determination, the Thai girls clawed back from behind to catch the American girls at 9-11. However, Thailand team could not maintain their momentum in the face of powerful spikes and scintillating blocks from their opponents. At the second technical timeout, USA already led Thailand by 16-10 and the visitors eventually saw out the set 25:16.
USA will face China while Thailand will take on Germany in their final match on Sunday.
