Despite passionate words from Thailand coach Kiattipong Radch, the side could not repeat their 2010 Asian Championships win over China on Saturday
Chengdu, China, August 6, 2010 — China picked up their second victory on the first weekend of the 2010 FIVB World Grand Prix as they overcame Thailand 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-22) in at home in Chengdu on Saturday.
The game was a rematch of the two side's encounter at the 15th Asian Women's Volleyball Championship, where Thailand upset the Chinese, but this time China came out on top
Thailand came out the blocks strong, taking control early on. However Ma Yunwen's blocks as well as Thai errors brought the hosts back into the game as they easily saw out the first set.
China began the second set by taking the lead, which they didn't surrender throughout, with Hui Ruoqi scoring a sensational 10 points to make up the difference between the two sides.
Thailand pushed China close in the third as both sides traded points early on. With no one taking advantage the two teams reached the first technical time out with maintaining momentum. However China picked up five points in a row to take the steam out of the Thai attack and they eventually went on to take the match to the delight of the local fans.
China will now face the Netherlands while Thailand play Puerto Rico on Sunday.
