Selinger: We ran out of gas

Hand-shaking at the Press Conference

RUSSIA

Head Coach Vladimir Kuzyutkin: In general there was no meaning for this game, but all the team members tried hard. Although we lost against Brazil and missed first place I am satisfied with second place. But the condition of the team is not perfect. The young players have gained a lot of experience, and from now on we can put emphasis on speed and combinations.

Captain Marina Sheshenina: First I would like to show my appreciation of my head coach and teammates for winning this game. We were able to perform really good. We played exactly as my head coach instructed.  I am also satisfied with our second place in this tournament. I also want to thank the organizers in Japan for giving us such good conditions for this tournament.

NETHERLANDS

Head Coach Avital Selinger: Russia changed some players, fresh players, who could at least play a certain level. We definitely looked very tired. I think we had some chances in the first set and especially the second set at 16-12, but actually we made so many unforced errors, unfortunately, that we lost the last chance we had.  From then on it was a very difficult match for us. I think Gamova could control the game. We did not do well on the outside spikers. We ran out of gas. It was a great experience, but very disappointed about today. That’s sport.

Captain Manon Flier: We could not play good and I am disappointed at my team and with my own play. We could not show our level. We lost the chance to get a medal in this tournament.

Ingrid Visser: Today it was not a good game. We made a lot of mistakes. There were so many scenes when it was everything or nothing. Sometimes we tried too hard so we made a mistake. We needed more control. We went down after the Japan game. It was a big disappointment because we finished the tournament like this.
