Ze Roberto hails Sassa

Press Conference

Head Coach Jose Roberto Guimaraes: I did not like the beginning of the match. My team did not do a very good job, but after we did. When Sassa came in the match I think we received better and we changed a little bit our attack and defence, too. Natalia is a very young player and she has to learn and play more games like this. It is normal. We suffered a lot on the Holland serve. We got 11 points in reception and Holland 10, so both teams did not receive well. Our block did a very good job with 18 points against seven for Holland. But it is always difficult to play against Holland. They know what to do. We need to work hard, learn and play more games like this. It was a very difficult match today.

Captain Dani Lins: In the early stages of the game we were defensive and could not play our own attacking style. However we improved on block and serve and recovered. Netherlands has high speed and high ball and we really had difficulty with that.

Mari Steinbrecher: Today in general we did not perform well, but our block functioned well. Netherlands is good at high ball and has speed and that gave us a hard time. Overall we are pleased to win against a team with such high potential.

Head Coach Avital Selinger: Our team did very well up to somewhere at the beginning or halfway of the third set and from that point on Brazil took control. We were a bit vulnerable in some rotations. In some rotations we could win points, but in others we gave points away. Against a team like Brazil they started to play better and better and we fell into the trap of their blocking and could not sustain a high level. Sassa came in and did a great job. She stabilized their overall play and gave Brazil some stability. At crucial moments she was there to help the team and it was too much for us to handle. Brazil gained the momentum and took control. I am happy that we were able to play a decent and high level game for 45 minutes against a great team like Brazil.

Captain Manon Flier: Brazil are a great team. We started the match just by playing point by point. From the start I think we managed to make it quite a nice match because it was tough for both teams. In the end Brazil played better in all kinds of ways. I am proud of my team. I wish it could have been a five setter. During the second set we served really well and that helped us win the second set, but it was not enough.
