I have faith in my players and they did not let me down, says Russia's head coach

Thailand
Head coach Kiattipong Radchatagriengkai
“At first, I would like to say that we feel great to play world champions Russia. They played with high standard. Their staff coaches are also experienced and worked hard for a better strategic plan in the match against us. I would like to thank home fans packing the gymnasium for their kind supports. I think we played well according to plan in the first two sets. We tried hard to maintain our form in the third and fourth sets, but my players’ form was a let-down. However, I’m glad that new players in my team had a chance to play Russia. We then realized how far we are from the world champions. It’s satisfactory that our form is much better than what we did last year when we finished 11th place. Against the USA next, I don’t think it will be an easy match. They must make a good plan against us. I think my players need a psychology skill to boost their confidence when playing much stronger rivals.”

Captain Wilavan Apinyapong:
“We played well only in the first two sets. In the last two sets, our first-ball reception was not that good, while Russia read our game well. Their serves were great, allowing us tough times of spiking opportunities. We next take on the USA and I hope we will try our best to beat them.”

Russia
Head coach Vladimir Kuzyutkin:
“I feel confident of my team. I’m very happy that we can beat Thailand on their home soil. My players played according to plan. I have faith in my players and they did not let me down. If I’m not wrong, my team’s target of booking a place in the Tokyo Finals is already within our reach.”

Captain Marina Sheshenina:
“It’s great to beat Thailand on their home land. However, I admit that it’s not easy to beat them because we also learned that Thailand played very well to beat many strong teams before. I did not know what’s wrong with us in the second set, which we could not control our own game. We made several mistakes.”
