Team Profile Coach Profile
The Chinese national women's volleyball team took five consecutive world championship titles in the 1980s. Though it experienced an unstable development in the 1990s, this heroic team won the World Cup title in 2003 and captured the gold medal in the 2004 Athens Olympic Games.

The new squad was named in early February 2006 and the newly built Chinese national women's volleyball team is already planning for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. This new team not only keeps some Olympic gold medalists, but also includes other young players with all-round techniques and distinct characteristics. Eighteen players, whose average age is 23.6 and average height is 186cm, are from seven different provinces and the army club. This team will develop the traditional advantages of the Chinese women's volleyball team, uphold the spirit of solidarity and assiduity, perfectly combine the old and the young players, and aim at achieving more World Championship titles.
Mr. Chen Zhonghe, who was born in Fujian Province of China in 1957, has a daughter and a son. He was first selected as the assistant coach of the Chinese national women’s volleyball team from 1989 to 2000, and was appointed head coach of the Chinese national team in 2001, the same year in which the side won the World Grand Champions title. He has led China to major victories in 2003 when they took home the gold at the World Grand Prix and the World Cup before claiming the 2004 Athens Olympic Games gold medal and the number one world ranking.
