In 1989 he was appointed assistant coach of the USSR junior women’s national team, who he coached to second place in the European Championship.
In 1993 he became head coach of the Azerbaijan national team and in 1994 he took ninth place at the World Championship in Brazil.
In 1993 he was appointed head coach of VakifBank and later EmlakBank VC (Turkey) – Champion and Cup Winner of Turkey. Until 2001 he was head coach of the Turkish national team.
Since 2001 until now he has been the head coach of the Azerbaijan national team and Azerrail BAKU Volleyball Club.

Regarding the 2006 World Grand Prix he has said: "We shall participate in this competition for the first time. But it is not new to us to take part in such prestigious tournaments. In 1994 in Brazil we were among the ten best teams in the world.
In spite of the youth of our players, we shall try to prove that our team has not joined the elite of world Volleyball by chance. To play in the same pools with the Olympic Champion, the national team of China and vice-champion the national team of Russia is a serious trial, but the young players look forward to such matches.
I hope to see some new surprises from my team during this tournament and above all a courageous and worthy performance”.
