09-Jul, start time: 13:00, end time: 14:11 - Attendance: 4'200

Italy hammered the young Dominican Republic
The relative fresh Dominican Republic team showed remarkable valiant strength in front of the vigorous Italian players. Italy had sufficient power to widen a gap before the second technical timeout. The weak defence created by the Dominican Republic further allowed Italy to widen the gap more. Team spirit in Dominican Republic came back towards the end of first set, yet Italy signed the first set at 25:21.

In the second set, Italy got the pace of the game and gained points with heavy weighted and quality spikes from #13,Cristina Vincenzi and #6, Valentina Fiorin. The defence of the Dominican Republic was pressurized and weakened by the Italy forceful spiking. Italy continually took control of the set, thanks to fabulous attacks of #9, Nadia Centoni. The three substitutions made by Dominican Republic seemed unable to turn the situation around, Italy finished the set with a 15-point lead.

It was definitely a critical match for Italy as it would determine the entrance to the FIVE World Grand Prix Final in Japan. Although Italy had gained the advantage of having the previous two sets, the third set started with a seesaw situation. The Italian players tried to widen the lead after the first technical time-out. A couple of unprompted mistakes made by Italy gave an opportunity to the Dominicans to bounce back. Italy shone to the brightest towards to the end of the third set and the team deserved to win with straight three sets.
