Italy displayed its awesome form by scoring a straight-sets victory over Thailand, 25-15, 25-10, 25-18
Italy waxed hot in the first set, posting a 16-8 advantage behind the powerful spike of Elisa Cella and solid block of Cristina Vincenzi to take the set in only 17 minutes.
So dominating were the Italians that they took a 12-5 lead behind the attacking skills of Serena Ortolani, Martina Guiggi and Nadia Centoni and padded the lead to 18-8 en route to winning the second set.
In the third set, Italy took advantage of Thailand's errors to go up at 9-2 but the Italians also committed errors which allowed the Thais to trim the gap at 10-13.
Cella and Ortolani scored two points each to give Thailand a 19-13 lead before Rattanaporn Sanuanram scored on an attack while Italy made two errors to put the score at 16-20 in favor of Italy.
Nadia Centoni, Cella and Ortolani joined hands in a rally as the Italians closed out the match in 57 minutes.
Cella led Italy with 13 points, including 10 kills. Ortolani had 11 points while Guiggi and Centoni made 10 and nine points, respectively.
Pleumjit Thinkaow topscored for Thailand with six points followed by Piyamas Koijapo with five and Sanuanram and Sangmuang with four points each.
