The Netherlands post a stunning straight sets victory over Italy, 25-18, 25-16, 25-21
Netherlands waxed hot in the first set, posting an 8-2 lead until Italy fought back to close the gap at 12-14. The Dutch played aggressively to wrap up the set in 21 minutes.
The early part of the second set was close but the Netherlands made it 17-10 after Italy committed some errors. Manon Flier and Francien Huurman joined hands in another rally and handed the victory to the Dutch.
Flier and Huurman continued to play well in the third set, taking a 12-7 lead before the Italians fought back behind Elisa Celia and Nadia Centoni, who both had two aces, to close in at 18-21.
But the Dutch were not to be denied the victory as Flier and Huurman sustained their winning form as the Netherlands went on to win the match.
Manon had 11 points followed by Huurman with 10 and Chaine Staelens with eight points.
Ortolani topscored with 12 points, including 10 kills, for Italy. Elisa Celia had nine points while Valentina Fiorin added six points.
