The Athens Olympic Champion China dominated the match over Germany
Without full concentration on the match, China did not start well in the beginning of the 1st set, resulting Germany grasping the first technical time-out at 8:5. The defense of German team was quite solid, which might be due to the effort of their Korean head coach, Mr. Lee Hee Wan. However, with China's traditional mature well-form tactics and 3 consecutively block points, they took back the lead immediately at 13:10. But then competitive rallies occurred until 18:16, China managed to control the rhythm to take the first set at 25:17.
In the second set, China continued to dominate the set with their main players. Their performance was quite stable whilst Germany committed several unforced error, causing their time-out at 9:14. The time-out was effective that Germany fought back to 14:16. However, with the seventeen-year-old new open spiker Wang Yimei's powerful spikes and Liu Yanan's brilliant blocks, China finished the set at 25:19.
No chance was given to Germany in the 3rd set. Although Germany improved their performance, China did strengthen their offense and defense at the same time, controlling the match with quite a lot of margin at 13:3. The Chinese substituted players were then sent out, and could still manage the set by completing the match at 25:15.
