Netherlands beat Thailand 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-14)

The Netherlands beat Thailand in straight sets at the 2005 World Grand Prix women's volleyball tournament Ningbo leg.

The Netherlands, who lost to the host China 3-1 on Saturday, got to a flying start as they jumped to a 12-5 lead in the first set. The towering Dutch women enjoyed a balanced offense, while Thailand could hardly get their quick attack going and the 1.81-meter Sangmuang Patcharee, the tallest player of the team, was its only weapon that could seriously threaten the Netherlands' defense.

Trailing 24-17, Thailand beat off two set points to make it 24-19, but Manon Flier had a kill to clinch the opener for the Netherlands.

Early in the second set, Thailand showed its variety in offense to take a 6-3 lead. However, the Netherlands gradually took back the control making full use of their advantage on the net. After a 10-10 tie, the Dutchwomen surged away with a 8-2 run and never looked back.

The Thais made no trouble for the Netherlands in the third set.

The Dutch women finished with two wins against one loss at the four-team round-robin tournament while Thailand failed to record a win in three tries. China will play the United States later on Sunday in the last match of the tournament.
