U.S. power past Thailand 3-0 (25-13, 25-12, 25-22)
The United States powered past Thailand 3-0 for their opening victory at the 2005 World Grand Prix women's volleyball tournament Ningbo leg.
Recovering from Friday's 3-0 defeat to the Netherlands, the United States delivered the lowly Thais, who have an average height of just 1.77 meter, 25-13, 25-12 and 25-22.
The United States easily took the first two sets as Thailand could hardly tear open the American defense led by the 1.91-meter Jennifer Joines and the 1.93-meter Elisabeth Bachman.
The Thais fought back hardly early in the third set and jumped to a 5-1 lead before the United States calmly pulled it back at 5-all through consecutive blocks and counter attacks. Then the American women surged away from a 12-12 tie for a 16-12 advantage and never looked back.
Thailand has lost two matches in a row.
