World Grand Prix 2004 - Press Info

Press conference

Germany beat U.S.A. 3-2 (25-23, 21-25, 16-25, 25-17, 15-12) - duration 1:57
24-Jul, start time: 20:35, end time: 22:32 - Attendance: 1'700
City: Rostock, Germany; Hall : Stadthalle Rostock
Hee Wan Lee (head coach Germany): "Now and then we are capable of such surprises as today against the USA. I hope that we can achieve such a surprise in the preliminary round at the Olympic Games to get into the next round. As a player you should try to win every match. We did not especially prepare for the Grand Prix final, our priority is athletics training, the matches are secondary. The better, if the team win. Wes hall replaced injured Christiane Fuerst by Tino Gollan in Italy."

Angelina Gruen (team captain Germany): "We had nothing to lose in this match and could play without any pressure. We can still improve in details, for instance reception. We have gained some respect from our opponents by this victory. We shall no longer be underestimated."

Toshiaki Yoshida (coach USA): "I congratulate the German team on making the final round. We did not play well, never got into our rhythm, did neither serve nor block well. I am hoping we will play much better in the final round in Italy, but we need a lot of preparation."

Tara Cross-Battle (team captain USA): "We had no energy on the court. I don't know why. This is unsettling for me as a player. We have a lot of work to do before Athens. The final round will be tough. We now have mentally to turn around quickly to be successful in Italy."
