Serbia's coach Zoran Terzic speaks during the press conference following the match against Korea
Nagano, Japan, November 4, 2011 - Serbia successfully navigated their way through their opening match against Korea on Friday but it came at a cost as Sania Malagurski was ruled out of the rest of the tournament.
Serbia coach Zoran Terzic: I can be very satisfied with the result because we won 3-0. About the game, we didn’t expect to play so well due to many reasons. We started the season in May and after the European League, the Grand Prix and European Championship, it’s a difficult seven months. Also, we’re playing with a new team without some of our best players and maybe for the rest of this tournament without Sanja Malagurski. Her injury was a big shock for us and I hope she will be OK, but we don’t know when. I hope it’s soon. But I want to congratulate my players and hope we can grow up game by game and play better in the rest of the tournament.
(Re. Ana Bjelica): She’s a young player and only started with the Serbia national team a few weeks ago. Up to now, she’s been with the juniors; she was captain of the junior team and one of the best young players in Europe. I hope she will become one of the best players in the next phase of the Serbia national team.
(Re. USA): It will be very easy to play against American because we cannot lose. If we lose 3-0, it will be nothing special because the American team is one of the best in the world. I’m 100 per cent sure they will finish in the top three here. If we make a good result against them, it will be amazing, but if not, it’s nothing special.
Serbia captain Natasa Krsmanovic: We played a good game today, but the injury of Sanja Malagurski was a big shock for the team. We tried to continue with the game and finish without making too many mistakes. So I’m satisfied with how the team played today and hope we play better in our next games.
(Impression of Japan) It’s the sixth time we’ve stayed here in six years and we always feel good in Japan. We also have a lot of fans in Japan and we always get good results here, so that’s the most important reason why we like Japan.
Korea coach Kim Hyung-Sil: First I want to wish a quick recovery for the player who got injured. Today, we experienced the strong Serbian team and we can see why they won the European Championship, but the main reason we lost today is because we couldn’t receive very well.
Korea captain Kim Se-Young: Now, it’s the high season for professional volleyball in Korea so we couldn’t prepare so well for the World Cup, but we tried our best and thought we could win against Serbia.
Korea No. 18 Kim Hee-Jin: We did our best today and have a sense that we can do much better. We will pick up our pace during the matches and will do our best next time.
(Re. first World Cup) It’s my first World Cup so the skills and techniques of the players are higher than those of the Korean players, but I’d like to continue competing against different countries at a high level so I can improve my skills as a player.
