Hiroshima, Japan, November 5, 2011 - Press Conference, Dominican Republic v Algeria: The Dominican Republic walked away with victory against Algeria in Hiroshima on Saturday in the first match between these two young teams. Coach Marcos Kwiek was pleased with to get a win after yesterday’s opening loss to Argentina.
Dominican Republic coach Marcos Kwiek: I’m very happy to get this victory. We made many errors but served and blocked well. We’re a very young team, we’ll keep practicing and do our best in the next matches.
It is my first time as a coach to play Algeria, and they still have many improvements to make. But we’re a young team too and like them need more World Cup experience.
On Lisvel Elisa Eve Mejia (aka Eve-Castillo): I think her best position is on the left. Her condition is good, but she needs more experience. I have high expectations for her.
Dominican Republic captain Milagros Cabral de la Cruz: We’re happy for today’s result, our first win in this World Cup. We were good serving and blocking today and we want to keep winning in our next matches.
We’re getting better especially with this win today. I like Japan a lot. We’re looking forward to playing here again.
Algeria captain Fatima Zahra Oukazi (Mazori): Congratulations to the Dominican Republic. It was difficult compared to yesterday. They have strong serve and we lost receptions. We still have not overcome our jet-lag from yesterday, but we’ll make it better for tomorrow’s match.
I know tomorrow will be harder, but we’re just getting started, and our concentration will improve. we’ll do our best.
In Africa we are one of the top teams, but there are more stronger countries in the world. When we play matches for our ticket to London, it helps us get big-match experience and become a stronger team.
Algeria coach Ahmed Boukacem: First of all congratulations to the Dominican Republic. Today we are very sorry for this result, but we’ll forget and move on to focus on the next match.
We were not so good receiving today. The Dominicans have a strong serve. So we’ll focus on next match.
