Hamamatsu, Japan, November 27, 2011 - Brazil picked up their fifth win of the 2011 FIVB Men’s World Cup on November 27, beating Argentina in three sets in front of energized Brazil fans in Hamamatsu Arena.
Brazil coach Bernardo Rezende: It’s three points, and for sure and I think our team started slow, we were cold and without the necessary focus. I think we played with more attitude in the second and third played. Argentina’s style has few mistakes good ball control, but I expect more from my team — I expect more from them tomorrow and the day after tomorrow.
We didn’t know all their players very well, and had to figure out how to play against them. We had to figure out the positioning. But they had sort of the same characteristics. We missed a little focus and attitude in the beginning, and not just today. We’ve had during many ups and down in the tournament and we have to play more consistently moving forward.
Brazil captain Gilberto Godoy Filho (Giba): Well, it’s three points and now we need to think about Cuba tomorrow. Brazil played well today, and we need to think how to play better every day, and play not to lose points because they’re so important. Now we can rest now and think about the match tomorrow.
On the Brazilian fans in attendance in Hamamatsu: I’m happy that the Brazilian fans are here at this moment. I hope the people stay for the next two matches in Hamamatsu and help us with other games, giving us more energy
Brazil player Marlon Muraguti Yared: For today we’re happy to take three points with the win. Our attack and defense were well organized, we kept our concentration to win this game. We hope to do out best to win the title in this World Cup.
Argentina coach Javier Weber: First I’d like to say congratulations to Brazil. We had a good game. Until the 18th point in each set we could compete, but after that their attack overwhelmed us. We also had a lot of young players in this match.
On Conte sitting out this match: He had a pain in his right knee, so he had to sit out this one.
On young players in this match: This tournament is long and we’d like to use new members. So in addition to our injuries that’s why we used so many young members.
Argentina player Maximiliano Cavanna: Argentina played with an alternative team today with new two or three new players. In some moments of the match, we played equally with Brazil point by point.
