Third time in Top 8 for Bedestenlioglu when competing in Mexico

Turkey won a silver medal in 2007 and finished among the best eighth in 2009 in Age Group World Championships that have been played in Baja California.

Tijuana, Mexico, October 12, 2013 - Turkish head coach Mehme Bedestenlioglu competed for the third time at an Age Group World Championship celebrated in Baja California, and for the third time one of his teams finished in the Top 8 in Mexico including a silver medal in 2007.

He remarked that despite finishing fifth this time, Turkey came here to reach the podium, however it was a beautiful ending as well as for his captain,  Gözde Yilmaz.

Mehme Bedestenlioglu, coach of Turkey: We wanted the first place, but it was a beautiful fifth place. Our team improved. We went up and improved in all games, but I’m sorry we went down after. Congratulations for all teams, they played really good.

Gözde Yilmaz, captain of Turkey: I’m happy we finished this tournament by winning. It’s a good win against Italy. We are happy. We played well against them and stopped them. We had some problems but could win.

Alessia Gennari, captain of Italy: This was a great experience for me and the group, for every player. For some of them this championship was their first competition and the last for me. I’m 21 years old. I think that the level was very good on every team.

Luca Cristofani, coach of Italy: We played a match without mental energy. We ran out of gas. Previously we had expected a competition that would go in a different way but now to fifth or sixth doesn’t change things. We were happy for hour previous victory against Brazil, for playing good against them. But we just turned things back after this match (against Turkey).
