Germans showed good depth and versatility in their roster


German players celebrate their victory over Cuba, injuries and illness in some did not stop Tietbohl's team in their road to Tijuana.

Mexicali, Mexico, October 9 2013 - Germany will continue their participation at FIVB Women's U23 World Championship after a victory over Cuba. The closing of first round in Pool B was a tough challenge for coach Jens Tietbohl.


During first round He had to change captain three times and even needed to replace the libero. But finally his team is in the Top 8.


Jens Tietbohl, head coach of Germany: We had to prepare for Cuba, this was a key match, so we worked hard with our block and defense a lot. It is nice to have this German team in the top eight at this Championship.


Juan Carlos Gala, coach of Cuba: Congratulations to Germany they surpassed us in all the lines and had a very good tactical plan that affected us by the middle of the court. They served well and we had a bad reception.


Jennifer Geerties, captain of Germany: We are satisfied with this performance. We put a lot of pressure against Cuba and tried to make difficult their reception and also worked hard against their middle blockers. We hare happy for winning and now we prepare to travel to Tijuana.
