It was a hard battle on both sides: Kiraly & Tietbohl

USA coach Karch Kiraly addresses his players in the five sets match against Germany.

Mexicali, Mexico, october 7 2013 - Germany had a resilient second and third sets against the United States. It was hard for both teams, coaches agreed after the one hour and 50 minutes match.

Germany’s captain, Jennifer Geerties was forced to leave the match due to an injury and his place was taken by Katharina Schwabe.

Karch Kiraly, coach of USA: It was a very nice effort by Germany. They fought from a big defficit in the third set. I like those kind of teams that play hard and we want to be able to fight like that. There were a lot of errors but we could improve in the fourth and fifth sets.

Jens Tietbohl, coach of Germany: Congratulations to USA. They played a very good volleyball match. We were not able to play at at a very high level like they did. They had a good recovery in the last two sets, and now we have to prepare for Brazil.

Gina Mancuso, Captain of USA: It was certainly a tough battle and a great effort by Germany. We could not say that his was our best match because we made some mistakes. Fortunately we won, but there are still two more matches to play.

Katarina Schwabe of Germany: Congratulations to USA. It was a hard match and at last, USA was better. They had a good pass and set the ball very well.
