It was good but tight for China

China and Germany had a solid battle on the net. The difference in the first set was only four points and three on the second in favor of the Asian squad.

Mexicali, Mexico, October 5, 2013 - Despite China's 3-1 win against Germany, the first two sets of Saturday's Pool B match of the FIVB Volleyball Women's U23 Championship Open began competitive.

Both sides began with a strong blocking game that provided balanced on both sides of the net, with 12 kill points for each team. Germany served seven aces and China six, but the work of setter and captain Di Yao helped to a first good result with 26 excellent attempts against 17 by Germany (10 by Irina Kemmsies).

“To be our first match we played not so bad, but we made mistakes we have to correct and expect to play better in our next match,” said Chinese captain Yao.

“I agree with my captain. We won in our first match but there are still some things we must improve ahead,” mentioned Jiande Xu, head coach of China.

“Our team did a good job but we made many mistakes in the reception and attack. However I think we can transform our performance and play better tomorrow,” said Jennifer Geerties, captain of Germany.

“China did a good job. The first three sets were so close and tight and I think  we also did it well, but China worked hard and respected their system,” said Jens Tietbohl, coach of Germany.
