The big serves carry Dominican Republic to victory

Dominican Republic beat Argentina relying on heavy serves and consistent blocking

Tijuana, Mexico, October 5, 2013 – The serve and blocking game of the Dominican Republic proved to be the difference of the match they won in straight sets against Argentina as the Caribbean team dominated in both categories and produced a lot of counter-attacks.

Brayelin Martinez, Captain of Dominican Republic: “We feel good after winning the first match, which is always a little bit difficult. We played against a good team and the difference was our defense at the net and in the field.

Antonela Curatola, Captain of Argentina: It was a difficult debut against a team with the power of Dominican Republic. Their serves complicated our reception and we failed too much, especially at the end of the second set after the score was tied at 18-all.

Marcos Kwiek, Coach of Dominican Republic: I am very glad to take this first match out of our way because the girls were a little anxious after training for a long time. I think that our serves made things easier for us and helped our defence, We touched many balls at the net and produced with our counter-attacks.

Guillermo Caceres, Coach of Argentina: I have not seen all the teams but I think the Dominicans have the skills to have a good championship. It is very tough to play against that kind of serves. Their blocking complicated things for us and we couldn’t rotate. They played good defense but not only (Brenda) Castillo. All the team played good defence.
