Team profile

The US Women's U23 National Volleyball Team began training in late September for the inaugural FIVB Volleyball Women's U23 World Championship event.

The preliminary roster has 13 players who have completed their collegiate eligibility with a majority of that group having one season of international professional volleyball to their resume.

The preliminary roster also has five players from the US Girls' U18 World Championship team that finished with the silver medal, along with another player aged 15.

Coach profile

Karch Kiraly is serving as the head coach for the U23 World Championship Team. He is also currently in his first season as head coach of the U.S. Women's National Volleyball Team, which has recorded a 21-5 record this season with titles at the Pan American Cup and NORCECA Women's Continental Championship, along with a sixth-place finish in the World Grand Prix.

Karch Kiraly, 51, a legendary volleyball player in the indoor and beach disciplines, was an assistant coach for the U.S. women’s team that earned the silver medal at the 2012 Olympic Games. He was subsequently named the programme’s head coach for the next Olympic Games quadrennial.

Kiraly has been recognised by many as the greatest volleyball player ever. He is the only volleyball player – male or female – to win Olympic gold medals in both the indoor and beach volleyball disciplines. The International Volleyball Federation named Kiraly as the greatest men’s volleyball player of the sport’s first century.
