Team profile

The Kenya Team comprises mostly of players who have gone through the country's Youth Development Programme run by the Kenyan Volleyball Federation with support from the FIVB Development Programme and UNICEF. The programme takes the form of a National Youth Talent Academy located in Nairobi and satellite stations in various parts of the country.

Many of the players play for senior teams in the Kenya Volleyball League, which is arguably the most competitive in Africa and features African Club Champions Kenya Prisons, Kenya Pipeline, KCB and other teams.

Coach profile

Sammy Mulinge, 41, holds an FIVB Level II coaching certificate and is currently the head coach of Rwandan champions APR. He has worked as an assistant coach for the Kenya men’s and women’s senior national teams.

He will be handling a team of immensely talented players who, despite only playing a limited number of international matches, cannot be taken for granted. They have the potential of pulling off one or two surprises against the big guns.
