Tunisia claim second pool win to stay in competition

Tunisia guaranteed their Uberlandia stay with their second tournament victory

Uberlandia, Brazil, October 9, 2013 - Tunisia claimed their second win at the Men's U23 World Championship with a 3-0 (21-12, 21-16, 21-15) victory against Dominican Republic on day four of competition at the Arena Presidente Tancredo Neves.

Victory means Tunisia are guaranteed to stay in the competition and contest positions fifth to eighth, whatever happens in their final pool match against hosts Brazil.

Tunisia dominated the first set, forcing 10 errors from Dominican Republic, while wing spikers Mohamed Ali Ben Othmen Miladi and Elyes Garfi, and middle bloker Mohamed Ayech all contributed points in a 21-12 win.

The second set was closer with Dominican Republic matching Tunisia in points scoring with middle blockers Mario Frias Tavares and Kelvyn Campechano Munoz, and opposite Henry Tapia Santana all attacking and blocking well, but in error counts
the teams were too far apart.

At the end of the second set, Tunisia had conceded just three error points compared to Dominican Republic's 19. It was hard to compete carrying that baggage and Tunisia took the set 21-16.

Dominican Republic cut out the errors at the start of the third set and, with Tapia Santana in his best spiking form, were controlling the set at the technical timeout, but their lead was fragile. A huge block point from Ben Othmen Miladi put Tunisia 15-13 ahead and they never looked back, winning the set 21-15 and the match 3-0.

Ben Othmen Miladi and Ayech were Tunisia's top scorers with 10 each, but the match's top scorer was Dominican Republic's Tapia Santana who scored 15 points.

After Thursday's rest day, it's the final round of pool matches with Tunisia up against hosts Brazil, while Dominican Republic end their tournament against the pool's other winless team Egypt.
